In the se­ries Twin Peaks (1990) by David Lynch and Mark Frost, the mys­tery of Lau­ra Palmer re­shaped tele­vi­sion by mix­ing soap opera ex­cess, de­tec­tive dra­ma, strange com­e­dy, and dream­like hor­ror, open­ing the medi­um to slow­er, stranger, more self-aware, and more ways of build­ing at­mos­phere, sus­pense, and char­ac­ter.
